So it was "the glory days" until I got here?
Personally, I thought that last year was plenty exciting here on JWD.
don't get me wrong, this forum currently has plenty of interesting discussions and posters, but, for those of you who weren't on the old jwd board in the early-to-mid-00s, man...i'm sorry but you really missed out on the glory years of this forum.
it was really a special, unique place then.
again, not dissing the current, but, that huge exciting wave of ex-jw internet activity that occurred in the early part of this century seems to have leveled off.

in the jeremiah book this week there was this example used to bash further education.... .
12 a brother now serving at world headquarters was 15 when he was offered a scholarship to a university.
to his teachers dismay, he did not accept that offer, preferring a career as a pioneer.
"Rather than seeking your own glory, are you determined to use them to praise Jehovah?"
And instead of seeking your own glory, why not use your talents to praise the chair that you're sitting in? If Jehovah needs to get some praise and recognition, why doesn't he write his own dictionary? Why doesn't he actually do something himself that is praiseworthy... other than having messagers warning that he's about to go batsh!t crazy and start a terrorizing genocide that's going to kill everyone that doesn't belong to this or that religion or sect? As if masterminding a bloodbath is somehow "praiseworthy." Geez, Jehovah is so lazy and insecure that he needs kids to turn their backs on their own education and future in order to drive around knocking at houses where people either aren't at home or aren't interested in getting a "Bible study" from uneducated drones that have no critical thinking ability?
While WT tells the sheeple to avoid any recognition for their talents or abilities, the GB laps up every drop of glory and honor they can get from their position. Although they don't have the dresses and hats, they're every bit the clergy of the Catholic Church.
so i woke up a few months ago and had no idea what to expect.
at first i was outraged that i had been lied to all these years and so sad that i lost so many years of my life to a cult.
in the past couple of weeks though, i've actually been having second thoughts.
dis_res: The important thing is that you're mentally "out". As already advised, take your time. It isn't as if armageddon is coming tomorrow and you have to stay in or get out ASAP. And things aren't as blank and white as you've been led to believe. That's part of the WT programming that if you leave the cult, you will lose all your family and friends, you'll be all alone and miserable, and you're life will spiral downhill into a mire of drugs, immorality, and dispair.
I was still attending for quite a while after I stopped believing. I stopped with the fake JW plastered on smile. When something wasn't right, I wore a puzzled look. I was careful about what I said, but my face could be clearly read. I started building my life and making plans outside of the cult and my family. Things have turned out for me much better than I expected. I've been able to keep the family that I wanted, and ditch the "friends" that I wanted to lose. It helped that I took plenty of time to plan and carefully read the stories of others here on the forum.
i can't decide if it is based on jealousy, class or the watchtower.
that shameful cult turned the word ambition into a dirty word.
it made the idea of self reliance and self worth a tainted thing.
"Critical thinking" is profanity for JWs, too. They really just want the sheeple to be mindless doormats.
well i went to a "special meeting" in the armadillo today where a 2 & 1/2 hour programme was relayed from london at 1pm.
apparently the letters of invitation only went out a month or so ago and not all congregations were invited.
there were 2,900 of us from around scotland.
Yep, sounds like Splane. And it's common among GB 2.0 to think that everything can be "fixed" with some nutrageous soundbite. I could imagine him reasoning with grieving parents, "So sorry to hear that your child died from refusing blood. But look on the bright side, your child is waiting for you in paradise, and now you and your wife have plenty of free time to pioneer. So pull yourself up by your bootstraps and get busy so you don't feel sad."
Special events like this grew increasingly lame. There would be so much speculation about some revelation beforehand, and then it was just much ado about nothing. Well, except that there were contributions needed to cover the expenses, and everybody had to bend over backward to please "Christ's brothers". And I suppose people were lined up after the program to shake his hand like he's the freakin' pope.
"His first major point was that no one needs to go to college or university."
He sure didn't need any kind of education. Splane was just another Gilead graduate out of the crowd of mindless drones... except he "discovered" he was "anointed" by nibbling the crackers and sipping the wine with a straight face. Then all the doors opened for him. He kissed the right asses and wowed the crowds in English and French. And this WT gig is all he's got. If the cult collapsed, he'd be unskilled and unemployed.
i can't decide if it is based on jealousy, class or the watchtower.

Good Job with that exam, Snare!
I still have a copy of the June 8, 2005 Awake! that angered me. The article is "The Bible's Viewpoint--Is It Wrong to Be Ambitious?" They criticize the rational words of an early rabbi about pursing the full potential of a person, and then use some pointless stories about Abraham and Solomon to twist the mess around saying how "true Christians" must be humble, modest, and only focused on doing "God's will". The last subheading is "True Christians Avoid Ambition".
I found the article particularly offensive for the reason I noted in the margin. Next to the title, "Is It Wrong to Be Ambitious?" I wrote, "Not if you want to be on the Governing Body!" Having the opportunity to meet the members of GB 2.0, I was completely unimpressed by their personalities and abilities. I saw no qualifications other than their ability to nibble crackers and sip wine once a year with a straight face. On one hand, I didn't see any of them as particularly ambitious because none of them had really accomplished anything in their lives, but they were ambitious in their seeking of glory and prestige that comes with being "anointed".
With articles like this, it showed the stupidity that was saturating the "organization," that I saw first-hand was turning into "disorganization". In their idiocy, they reason that people should be content to be doormats. With such shoddy leadership in WT, they don't want anyone "ambitious" to be rocking their boat! Obedience is far more important that intelligence.
From the excerpt of the rabbi's quote, he sounds far more intelligent to say that we should pursue our greatest potential without harming others. And why condemn the word "ambitious" as if it's wrong to pursue a raise or a promotion or higher education?
Watchtower is being led by idiots.
well?
we're all waiting on the other side of the pond to hear the latest "new lights" being revealed - it'll save us waiting - sometime for months!!.
seriously, due to past articles & teachings - especially july 15th 2013 - the rumblings of people awakening are clearly being heard.. hence christ's repeated warnings about "staying awake" and "keeping on the watch" as well as 'testing inspired expressions' to see where they really originate!.
Maybe it's the same old pig, but they've put fresh lipstick on it!
so we had the woman version.
let it rip guys - what type of woman makes you just want to get her know her better - the one that makes you take that risk and walk on over to start a conversation?.
i am new here and briefly want to introduce myself.. my name is michel and i am from the netherlands.
became baptized when i was 14, started pioneering when i got 18 and i've been ms for a number of years.
i married another pioneer and after a while we joined a foreign language congregation.
Welcome 1009 and Freedom!
in another thread, what's new for 2013 - lo nuevo de 2013, jwn member, oppostate, posted news of dc releases at this year's district conventions.
among the releases was this: .
a new dvd for 2013: the return of the prodigal son.
If the Prodigal Son was a child molestor, then WT would make certain that his sins were hushed up and everyone was forced to celebrate his return.
